Goal Setting
We are firm believers that all of our members should be setting goals for themselves. We believe that you should have personal, health and career goals, as well as specific fitness goals within the gym. Setting goals and writing them down, helps you to hold yourself accountable and gives you guidance and motivation for your workouts in the gym or the hard work you are putting in at your job. When you sit down to start setting your goals, here are some guidelines to follow:
There are 2 types of goals:
1- “Behavioral” – ” I will go to the gym every Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri and Sat.
2- “Outcome” – “I will back squat 400lbs by 5/1/2015”
* create outcome goals, and then create behavioral goals to reach your outcomes
Here is some framework to help you word your goals:
1- Use actionable/present tense verbs: I want to go to the gym more often -VS- I go to the gym more often
2- Make them measurable: I go to the gym more often -VS- I go to the gym 5 times a week
3- Be specific: I go to the gym 5 times a week -VS- I go to the gym Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri and Sat.
4- Make them time-bound: I go to the gym more often -VS- I go to the gym Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri and Sat by 5/1/15.
Now it’s your turn! Use these guidelines and start planing out your own personal goals! We’re always here if you need some help or guidance along the way.
